Tip: African Masks

I had my 5th grade students create African masks from milk jugs. It was a great way to show them how to recycle materials and help our planet. I do a lot of recycle projects with all my students.

Gardening: Red PoppiesThese poppies are the biggest I have ever seen. The blossoms are 6 inches across. I don't know why they are so big this year. They have always been a normal size. The weather has been colder than usual, so maybe it has something to do with that.

Clear VHS Cases For SeedlingsWhen our library decided to get rid of videos in favor of DVDs, all the old transparent plastic cases went in the waste bin. This is a cloche made from some that I rescued. Superb for plants and less for landfill!

Create Display Shelves Above WindowsSome time ago someone posted an idea to use shelves over windows. I had commented that I did the same thing only I used wooden door gingerbread trim to make the side brackets so that I could hang my curtain rods through them.

Recycled Kitchen Utensil HolderI used Juicy Juice cans to hold my kitchen utensils. I put them in a wire basket that I found for 50 cents, added the magnets and bingo, a multipurpose rack.

Sharing Plants and CuttingsAll of these plants were donated to me by a fellow Thrifty Fun member. All of these were taken directly from her grounds. They are doing great and are a fabulous starting point for me!

Welcome Sign Made From BranchesI am big on nature. I took one long branch, a shorter branch, scrap wood, and made a welcome sign. I screwed the branches together. I put a screw(or nail) in top of the sign, wrapped copper wire around top screws.

LupineThese are my pretty lupines that I finally got established this year. The gazing ball in the background is made from a bowling ball and glass 1/2 balls and glue. It does not break as easy as the regular gazing balls!

Recycle Plastic Lemons as a VaseI emptied this little lemon juice container and thought of using it for my kitchen counter with a few fresh flowers from the yard. I usually have something blooming year round, so a bloom or two brightens my day.

Recycled Shredder for ToiletriesI had this little shredder for a while and it began to show it's age. I painted it and used it for earrings and my make up brushes. It's perfect with my black and red bathroom!

Calla LiliesHere is another one of my Nana's lilies (we both enjoy lilies). This is a calla lily she just tried her hand at planting this year and they seem to be responding well.

CD Cake Toppers Or CenterpiecesI decided to recycle old scratched up or non-useable CDs. So I made these into centerpieces and cake toppers and sell them for extra money. Each one is different and one of a kind or sometimes I have doubles of some figurines.

Creative Window TreatmentsI'm really happy with the window treatments that a friend helped me create for my family room. Instead of using curtain rods, we hung sheer panels on inexpensive metal candle holders purchased from Old Tyme Pottery.
