I have found that there are times when you can capture the soul of a child without even photographing their face. This picture shows exactly who my daughter is; a free spirit in red scuffed shoes and a tattered ballet tutu.

A bamboo forest in Cherokee, NC
Bamboo Jungle (Cherokee, NC)We were in Cherokee, NC last October (at the base of the Smokies), and came across this bamboo jungle in a park. I loved it so much, that I had to snap a picture of it.

Wildlife: Fawn (Elk Neck State Park, MD)We went away for the weekend, and we stopped at Elk Neck State Park in North East Maryland. Along the side of this road was a brave little fawn that didn't seem to notice that we stopped our car right next to her.

Beautiful pink bloom
Garden: Happy HollyhockThis is a hollyhock from seeds sent to me by my late sister 15-20 years ago. When the stocks are dried and the seed pods are ready, I scatter them every where. Only 2 or 3 plants grow to bloom again.

Blue Jays Trapped in Homemade Squirrel FeederI found these plans to make a squirrel feeder using some scrap wood in the shed and a pickle jar, and put it on our porch. You'd be amazed by how many blue jays we have had to release out of the bottle.

Garden: Red LilyI love this deep red lily, surrounded by butterfly weed. I had trouble getting the lily bulbs that I planted last fall, to come up. This is the only one that did. I am happy it was this one. I love it!

Golden Plums
Garden: Golden Plums (Louisiana)In spite of the dry conditions in this part of Louisiana, the golden plum crop was abundant. These golden jewels make the very best sweet, yet tart, jelly ever! If you ever get the opportunity to try your hand at making golden plum jelly. You will not be disappointed!

PassionflowerThis plant grows wild in my yard. I have at least four, that just pop up in the spring! The flower looks purple in the photo but is a very bright, beautiful blue (periwinkle) color in person.
