Raccoons are nocturnal animals meaning they are active at night and sleep during the day. But where do raccoons sleep during the day? Well I got my answer the other day. I looked up into the tree above my back deck one morning and saw this raccoon lying on a limb.

Spring Or Fall Maple Leaf Display?I had to cut down a small maple tree. It was growing too close to a retaining wall. I hadn't gotten around to removing the stump. After a hard rain, I noticed several water sprouts had grown up from the base of the stump. The leaves on the sprouts were alive with colors usually found in autumn rather than spring.

Angel in my GardenI have a statue of an angel in my garden. I planted cantaloupe seeds close by and the vines grew towards it. The angel picked up one of the vines and held it in her hand.

Tropical Fern Flower
Tropical Fern With Cactus FlowerSeveral years ago a group of friends and I went on a nature walk up the river bed that runs in front of my home. We followed the river to the base of the mountain. There we discovered different varieties of ferns and other tropical plants growing wild.

Two ClematisThe fuchsia and white flower is clematis Little Duckling. The purple flower is clematis Jackmanii. I have rooted many Little Ducklings. I am in the process of rooting more Jackmanii.

A Nest Full of Sleeping BeautiesWhile checking my bluebird houses, to my surprise I found five little babies sleeping. I am sure Mommy and Daddy Bluebird will be busy keeping these little mouths full.

Little ToadI found this little hopper while walking on a trail in the park. I am pretty sure it is a southern toad. It is hard to tell when they are this young. This little toad is a newly metamorphosed toadlet and will have to wait 2 to 3 years before it can reproduce and start the process over again.

Cardinal
My "Odd" CardinalThis bird appeared at my feeder last year and I never could get a good look at it. It was bright red, almost orange, it 'glowed', it was so beautiful. It looked like a cardinal, but something was just not right. There were no black markings around the face and it was not the right color red.

Beebalm and ButterflyThe garden is such a busy place, but often goes unnoticed. Taking a break from planting, I've watched praying mantis, bees, and butterflies land and wander through just doing what they do. You are never alone in a garden.

Clematis 'Little Duckling'I had forgotten about this picture. It was in a batch I took a couple days ago. When I ran across it, I thought it would be nice to share. The name of this Clematis is 'Little Duckling'. As you can see by the many unopened buds, it is a prolific bloomer.
