I dont know about the gardenia and lavender, but you can grow the basil from seed. Just make sure that it has a sunny window, and rotate the pot so that the plants do not lean unevenly towards the light!
Planting Virginia Creeper?
Dont do it! Some people are highly allergic to Virginia Creeper (me, included), and it can cause a rash that will last for over a month and several cortisone shots. I am not allergic to poison ivy or poison oak, so I never dreamed this plant would affect me...

I have used a hair dryer before and had no problems. Just use a slow steady stream of air, and do not focus in one place for too long. Use towels or a pan below to catch the drips/ice chunks. Good luck!
