Cleaning Black Burnt-on Stuff from Stainless SteelFor burned-on black yuk in a stainless steel pot or a glass one, use bleach (like Clorox). Pour in enough to cover. Usually by the next morning, the black will be gone. Even if the charred part is thick, the bleach will loosen it enough that your pot can be saved, and with no strenuous scrubbing. Some pots will require more than one overnight (don't ask how I know).

Removing Scorch Marks from Large PotI work for an electric co-op and during a recent ice storm our crews were working around the clock to get lights back on. All the ladies usually go and prepare meals for the guys . We were cooking a spaghetti supper for them. We had big pots of spaghetti cooking and when one of the pots was poured into a collandar we discovered the bottom had stuck and actually scorched on the bottom of a stainless steel pot. I am really having a tough time getting all the scorch marks out. Any suggestions? Thanks Nona Georgia

Keeping Silverware Polished?I have a wonderful full set of hotel silverware that I use for everyday eating. Unfortunately, they get tarnished and become so time consuming to keep clean. So far a gentle rub with SOS or Brillo has gotten it very shiny but doesn't last and is probably destroying the surface. As everyday silverware, tarnished ware is rather unappealing and chemical polishes may not be the healthiest choice. What can I do to keep longer lasting brilliant silver? How in the world do the fast-paced hotels maintain their silver? ZSU

Corrosion on Stainless Steel? My dear husband filled my stainless steel stockpot with water for the cat while we were gone for the weekend. Now, there's a white, crumbly corrosion around the rivets that join the handle to the stockpot. I've cleaned it off, but my question is this: Is it still okay to use the pot for cooking food? If not, what else can I do with it (short of throwing it away). It's not my best stockpot, but it's still a nice pot. Camilla

Cleaning Cake Decorating Bags?I bake and decorate cakes, as a second income, and use washable bags for my frosting. Over time, the bags seem to develop an odor of stale shortening, which I can't seem to get rid of. The bags are not cheap, so I can't keep replacing them, and the odor doesn't seem to transfer over to the cake I am working on, but it just bothers me that I can't get rid of the odor. I don't like the disposable bags, because they are too stiff, and they're not cheap either. I don't have a dishwasher to wash them in, but I try to use really hot water, and even let them soak, but it doesn't matter. Any suggestions on what I should use? Mrs. Mutt

Dishwasher Turns Plastic Pink?We don't eat a lot of spaghetti and we just bought a house with a dishwasher. Sometimes my dishwasher turns all my plastic pink! I cannot figure it out! Its a pale pink, not orange like tomato sauce stains. Some of the stuff I had will not go back to its original color so now my coffee pot filter holder and my ice trays are pink! Does anyone else have this problem? I keep wondering if it is the cascade dishwashing powder. I switch to electrosol and it does not seem to happen anymore. Has anyone tried that plastic booster stuff? Does it work? sarah_bellum from Saint Louis

More Water Softening Problems? The hardness of our water tested at 20 grains. Best advice seems to be to install a water softener. Since neither sodium or potassium is acceptable in husband's diet we were advised to install softener on hot water only. Is this a viable solution? Is there a better way?
