I am blessed to have grown up in a family where my parents had gone through the Great Depression and then WWII. They never made being frugal seem like punishment, but more of a game, where I was taught to look at the bigger picture.

Lessons Learned From My GrandmotherMy Grandma Smith was the perfect example of what a Grandma should be. I feel very blessed to have had her for my grandma. I was the youngest of her many grandchildren and, until I was an adult, she always told me I was her baby.

Saving Money on SpicesWhen buying herbs and/or spices, do so a tablespoon or so at a time, rather than the higher priced "packaged" ones. This means you will have fresher, and it costs far less.

My Frugal Life: Bartering for VegetablesI got an email the other day about a quote I had made on a magazine site. It referred to bartering. I never really thought about it as it had been posted a few years ago. Now thinking back I can say, without a doubt, our lives were blessed in many ways from bartering.

Keeping the Jack O' Lantern FreshCombine equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle, shake and spray all cut areas of your pumpkins and they will not get soft, rot, or shrink for a long time.

My Frugal Life: Passing the BuckI pass the buck on expensive laundry detergent, and use my favorite dish washing liquid that I do hand washing in anyway. I use the extra money from not buying the laundry detergent and pass the buck over to fabric softener.
