I thought I turned on the small back burner on my white smooth top Jenn Air stove. You can imagine my panic when I turned around and saw smoke rising from the front burner where I had left an iron skillet on top of a braided hot pad. I grabbed another hot pad, pulled the skillet and burned pad off the burner to reveal a blackened, burnt on mess.

Keeping Hair Dye Off Polished NailsOne thing that really irritates me is when I have a nice manicure and a bit of hair dye gets on my nails and they get ruined. I love to wear regular and glitter polishes, but they suck up hair dyes like a sponge.

Using Bread to Pick Up Broken GlassI recently dropped a dainty black light bulb on the kitchen floor. There were tiny bits everywhere! I swept up what I could see, but I was scared there were minuscule shards everywhere. I carefully pressed a slice of bread over the glass. The sponginess and little nooks sucked up all of the debris.

Cleaning Stove Drip PansI clean my stove drip pans over night in grocery store bags. Yep, I put two of them in several bags, bagged one inside the other and pour ammonia over them then tie them off. I do the same with the other two and let them sit in the sink until morning.

Wash New Colored T-shirt SeparatelyI put my red t-shirt in the bag with some dirty clothes to bring home from a trip. It must have had a little damp spot on it because it bled onto my beige shorts. I'm glad I did not throw it in the wash with the colored clothes. The white on my husbands plaid shirts may have come out pink.

Boiling Water for Removing Fruit StainsMy Aunt taught me how to make strawberry preserves and I got some on my T-shirt I was wearing. I thought my shirt was forever stained by the juice of the strawberries. She showed me that when you take your shirt and stretch it over a bowl inside out and pour boiling water on the stain, it disappears!

Remove White Lint with VelcroI accidentally threw my husband's dark pants and other dark clothing into the front load washer that I didn't realize, or see that I already had white towel rags in there already. I wasn't even looking, I just took a "hug full" of his dark clothing, threw them in the washer, and started it up.

Protecting Outdoor Toys with a Shower Curtain LinerIt was an endless battle keeping the outdoor toys clean. My friend suggested going to the dollar store and getting shower curtains. I got the liners because they are white. Perfect solution! I save water, detergent and time.

Vinyl Placemats as Shelf LinersI purchased vinyl placemats from the Dollar Store to line my cabinets. Easy to measure and cut to your exact specifications. These liners can be wiped with a damp cloth and will last a lifetime. I have also placed these liners in my bathroom vanity drawers and on my refrigerator shelves and drawers.

DIY Cleaning WipesUse j-cloths cut into strips or use full size. Saturate with 1/4 cup bleach, 1 tsp dish soap, and 1/4 cup water. Stir well. Place them in a plastic container with a hole in the top so that you can easily pull one out as needed. They are great for cleaning counter tops and the bathroom.

Cleaning Your Hair DryerDust can clog the motor, and shorten its life. I used a combination of a vacuum cleaner and an old toothbrush to clean mine.

Scrubbing Bubbles to Clean Hairspray off SinkI'll admit it. I use hairspray every time I fix my hair. And of course the mist falls down and lands all over my bathroom sink. Fairly quickly, my sink develops a film of grime because of it. I've found that using Scrubbing Bubbles erases any evidence of hairspray and leaves my porcelain sparkling.
