Every year we have no idea what the weather will bring in the winter months. I have a special box just for this occasion. I buy soups, canned meats with pastas and other non perishable items to go in it.
Instead of expensive window insulation kits that are hard to install and can be used only one year, try this: buy bubble wrap. Cut it to fit each window.
A glass top coffee table can be changed to match the seasons. Every few months. I gather leaves from either my cedar or oak tree and lay them atop the glass. I give it a light coat of spray paint, remove the leaves and once dried, flip the glass over.
