How do you take a cutting from a lilac bush and transplant it to another city?

I have had luck by digging up a waterspout branch. They are the ones growing up from the ground around the lilac. Move the soil so you can cut below surface. Take a few cuttings, put in a pot with soil, keep watering so they don't dry out, then plant when you get to your new destination.
Good luck!

Usually a lilac will have rooted suckers coming up around the base. You can just dig one of these up and transplant it where you want it. Keep it pretty wet for the first two or three weeks.
