I don't add sugar to my veggies. I just heat them, whether canned or frozen. I don't put sugar in my cornbread. I am not diabetic, I just don't require that all my food be sweetened.
This is a guide about using Lock & Lock containers. These containers come in a variety of sizes and shapes. They can help you organize and store your fresh and dry foods.
Tea is better if it's made by the sun, bringing water to a boil on the stove creates 'bitter' tea. And sun tea does not necessarily mean that it has to sit in the sun. Tea bags will make tea sitting on the counter or in the fridge, it just takes time.
Years ago when our family started getting larger, we needed more refrigeration space so I purchased a small dorm type refrigerator without a freezer compartment. I discovered that this refrigerator was great for keeping potatoes, tomatoes, apples, blueberries, onions and even bananas longer.
I like the taste of salted butter, but it recently occurred to me that a lot of the things that I have with it contain a fair amount of salt themselves. So I experimented with spreading bread or toast with unsalted butter when using these fillings, and found that I didn't miss the salt.
I made raspberry syrup, but it is way too thin. I'm thinking of making it into jelly. Any ideas how much pectin to use and any other ideas to make this process easy as possible?
Many suggestions are floating around for this chore, but yesterday I found the winner. I took a pair of needle-nosed pliers to the task. All I did was slide the pliers under the hull, catching the stem, and lift the hull off.
I am just beginning to learn to make wine. I tried to make it once, but failed badly. Any tips on how to start if you don't know anything about the subject?
I worked in a small deli for a few years, about 1970. They had a solution, that sliced lettuce that had rust on the cut edges was soaked in and it removed almost all the rust. Anyone know or heard what this solution could be?
This recipe was "developed by" Cynthia Ann Starr in Louisiana. It started out as cake mix cookies but I had forgotten the exact recipe and "thought" it was 3 eggs. So I put everything together. These taste like cake and are soft like cake but you can pick them up like cookies. They do not crumble like cake does when picked up to eat. Freezes wonderfully. I freeze unfrosted and frost after the drops are completely thawed (about 20 minutes).
I did this initially when I ran out of fresh potatoes, and it worked really well - you place the chips in a saucepan of water, and boil as you would potato that you'd just peeled and cut up.
Coffee too hot and needs to be cooled down? Are you in a rush? Do you not want to put watery ice in your coffee? It depends on how you like your coffee. If you want sweetness put creamer in an ice tray and freeze it. If you just want to cool down your coffee, freeze some coffee.
I have a 12 cup drip coffee maker. I buy Maxwell House coffee and it comes with a scoop. How many do I need for 12 cups?
I love homemade chicken salad. I finally have tweaked it to the point where it is the best I have eaten.
I am too frugal to spend my money out on a lunch each day. This make a delicious salad and roast beef sandwich in one. Enjoy! :)
Rather than buying specialised flours, you can use plain, US all purpose, flour and add 2 Tbsp. lemon juice to provide the acidic environment that yeast requires. Don't forget salt, which helps to stretch gluten.
Toast left in too long after it pops, is now warm and hard: Butter it, wrap in a paper towel and microwave for 15 seconds.
If you are concerned about the fat levels in full cream milk, the most cost effective solution is to dilute whole homogenized milk 50/50 with water, rather than buying semi-skimmed. This means that you get twice the amount of milk for the same money.
Does anyone have a recipe for good gluten free bread? So far, the ones I have tried have not been very appetizing!
Is there a way to make white bread in a bread machine that is not so porous? The bread I made has little holes all in it and makes it harder to put a spread on evenly. It taste good, but is not what I wanted. I wanted sandwich bread.
We have freezer strawberry jam that we are traveling with - 206 four ounce jars. They are currently frozen. We are leaving Tuesday and we are giving them away on Saturday. Can we just keep them in a cooler until we give them out or do we need to keep them cool?
I am trying to locate the old Weight Watches books from the 1980s/1990.
After you're done popping your popcorn in the microwave, and before you open the bag, put it over the garbage can and shake the bag really hard. Make sure the opening of the bag is down. All your unpopped seeds will go into the garbage, no more seeds.
