(i'm 32)

i just figured out that after a shower i was drying my hair first, then drying my face with the conditioner residue from drying my hair. (auck!!) USE a seperate towel to dry your face and your hair.

Drink WATER!!!! Drink one ounce per pound for 60% of your body's weight. I did this for one year every day and i have way less toxins: they all got washed away!

Keep smiling: people will notice your soul in your eyes and your smile ---whatever zits come your way!

I have gotten the big bumpy kind on my neck lots now that I am in my mid to late 30's. I think a lot of hair products I use are the culprits. They are very difficult to get rid of. Sometimes if I soak a cotton pad in witch hazel and attach it over the pimple it will shrink it down over night. I have heard that if you hold an ice cube on them for 12 seconds three times a day that gets rid of them and have had success but it's kind of something that you just don't think of to do all the time. I think over washing just makes it worse. Don't pick at them or they spread. Try not to touch them and keep them clean and dry and hope for the best. There are all sorts of things you can try. I think adult acne is very difficult to deal with, sometimes you just have to tolerate it, the stress of it is enough to make it worse as well.

I use 10% benzoyl peroxide cream on the affected areas twice a day after washing my face. If, like me, you have an oily T-zone, wash with a mild fragrance-free soap like Dove. I only moisturize my face around the eyes, cheeks and neck. I also use apricot scrub on my face regularly -- helps exfoliate. I have found that facial care products with added fragrances irritate my skin, causing bumps and redness. So I only use fragrance-free, non-comedogenic products.

I agree with Grandma Bess but I use the Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Cleaning Pads. I also use a stick of 100% cocoa butter on the dark spots left by the pimples. Alcohol is too drying for my 63-year old skin so I avoid it and facial products that contain it. If you really must, Witch Hazel serves as a decent toner. Again, over time it too can be a little drying.

Go to acne.org and read that site. That's what I did when I was tempted to try Proactiv ... I happened onto this site while researching. I followed the instructions exactly and am very happy with the results.
Apparantly benzyol peroxide is the key, but not in the concentrated amounts in Proactiv or over the counter, because it is extremely extremely drying to your skin. The guy who put up the site manufactures his own b.p. in a much lower, more easily tolerated gel for only about $8. I ordered it -- no problem. I followed his directions precisely. My skin cleared in about 6 weeks. It flared up again about 6 months later, so I got back on the program for a few weeks. No problems since then! I am so happy.
A dermo once told me that acne breakouts are like a rock rolling down a hill -- unless you stop it, it gains momentum. Mine was kind of like that. Once I used persistance with the regimen at acne.org, and then slammed it again when it reemerged, that seemed to have licked it. And I've been suffering all my life with this stuff. Not enough to take accutane, but enough persistant breaking out to cause scarring and lowered self esteem. (I'm 51.)

Ok, this might work, seems to be working for me. Was in Kaiser pharmacy the other day and someone pointed out Rex Eme as a great hand cream, so I got a little jar for my hands, about $3.25 for 2 oz. of thick white cream. I researched it on-line and come to find out there are tons of things it's used for. Now if you look at the ingredients you might wonder, but I've been using it at night on one side of my forehead (compared to my other "trial" lotion) and the Rex Eme side is clearer! I don't use lotion, just wash my makeup off and smear a light coat, I am not too oily in the morning and it seems to be working. You can shop at Kaiser pharmacies (here on the West coast) without being a member, or Google it. Try it, it's a small price to pay if it works!

Try buying a box of alcohol prep pads at your pharmacy (the kind used by diabetics who do frequent finger sticks); they are the perfect size to wipe across an acne outbreak and a box of 100 is about a dollar!
