I have a birthday party to plan for January 3rd. It is an office party for our woman administrator. She love Americana and Country stuff. I need ideas for decorating without having to go out and buy Americana items at top dollar. Help. Mary Ellen

Baskets of fruit for centerpieces, bandannas from the dollar store laid out as table runners or used as napkins, silverware rolled in bandannas tied with a piece of raffia. Wood childrens blocks or toys, teddy bears, etc as part of the decor. As the attendees to bring stuff, then all you have to do is arrange it.

Thank you for these great ideas. As soon as Christmas is over I will get started.
Have a Bridal Shower and a wedding to do in-between Christmas and New Year's. I love decorating for parties etc. It has been an unfolding awareness this past year that I can really do this and people like it. Still doing it all free and probably will continue since doing it for pay is "work". :0)

Check the remnant bins at a fabric store for Americana fabric -- even red and blue gingham. You can use the fabric in various ways -- tie some short torn strips onto twine or raffia for a garland; use as wrapping for gifts; make a pillow; etc. Other readers here will certainly have more ideas on how to use it.

Also, I bet lots of party stores/departments will have star confetti in various colors that may be marked down after Jan 1. And with the emphasis now on Americana Christmas decorations, maybe there will be a lot of those marked down after the holiday as well -- some that aren't Christmasy but may be useful.

These are just ideas. Sounds like a fun party!!

Try you local dollar stores and the best of all thrift stores. (i.e. Goodwill - The Salvation Army) You'll see lots of Americana and Country stuff there. Mabye decorate her office/cubicle/desk with some country plaque's etc....
