If your diaper pins or straight pins get dull from over use, run them through your hair and they will work every time.

You can rub the ends of pins (at an angle) across a fine emery board of match book (striking part) to remove burs and sharpen.

I didn't know if it was clear that running the pins through your hair does not actually sharpen them, it just lubricates them so they will go through the fabric more easily. This method really works, too!

you can also push them into steel wool, that sharpens them.

I used to stick them into a bar of soap. That worked well too.
