Homemade Bisquick

Does anyone have a recipe for homemade Bisquick? I have a copycat Red Lobster Biscuit recipe that uses Bisquick, but I never buy it. Thanks in advance.

Homemade Bisquick

The recipe for homemade bisquick I have used for years is as follows:

  • 8 1/2 cup all purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups instant nonfat dry milk
  • 2 1/4 cups vegetable shortening

Just blend all together with pastry blender and use as bisquick substitute.

Stays fresh for about 10 weeks. Can also be made with half whole wheat flour and half all purpose. I even like to use bread flour for a lighter outcome. (09/12/2008)

Homemade Bisquick

Bisquick

  • 8 cups flour
  • 4 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 cups shortening

Blend all ingredients well. Use as you would regular Bisquick.

This is from one of the cookbooks I compiled. It's called Mixes In Jars. It's several recipes of just dry mixes. (09/16/2008)

Most 'make-it-yourself' mixes make a huge batch. They do make smaller boxes of Bisquick if you don't use it much. Also Jiffy mix is almost exactly the same thing at a lower cost. Make coffee cakes, pancakes or waffles with the remainder of the box. (09/17/2008)

Here is a recipe I've had for the Red Lobster Biscuits.

Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuits

  • 2 cups Bisquick baking mix
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • parsley flakes
  1. Mix Bisquick, cheddar and milk into soft dough. Beat with a
wooden spoon for about 30 seconds.
  2. Spoon on to greased cookie sheet. Smooth down tops to avoid hard
    points from forming.
  3. Bake for 8 to 10 min at 450 degrees.
  4. While baking, melt butter in pan and stir in garlic powder.
  5. Once biscuits are cooked, brush butter on tops, sprinkle with
parsley and serve hot. Serves 10
