After Christmas sales are the best place to buy for next year. Buy tree and other decorations, lights. cards, wrapping paper, napkins, table cloths, at the sales. Sometimes gift items that will be good for next years giving are also available.
Also there will be sales on everything throughout the stores. It is easiest to return items in the next few days so if you received something you know you will not wear or use, take it back. Most stores are very forgiving immediately after Christmas (but less so later) without sales receipts.
Next year, when preparing for Christmas and opening up a "Christmas Club" account, stash some extra money in and specially mark it for "After Christmas Sales".

I like to buy candles at half price and save them for other holidays: red for Valentine's Day, green for St.Patrick's day or spring/summer themes, silver for New Year's Eve or Hanukkah and white for almost any time. (02/03/2001)
I buy the usual things after Christmas, cards, wrap, tags, etc but also put away some things I can use as teacher and bus driver gifts and even some things for the kids from Santa! This year tho I found beautiful Christopher Radko Christmas pins 75% off at Target and then got even more at 90% off. They had been $10 ea. I'm planning to sell some on ebay but also will have some nice little gifts for years to come! Love those sales! (01/10/2006)
