One Cake, Two Desserts

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 204 Posts

The next time you trim a cake either to layer or to make a special character for a child's birthday, save the "trimmings". Use these to make a second dessert by placing cake trimmings in a bowl, then topping them with whipped cream or ice cream and fruit.

Years ago I was in to decorating formal cakes & always had leftover tops. Sometimes I'd save back the extra pieces, crumble into a bowl & mix together with strawberry jello made extra thick. Once it set up in the refrigerator, we would scoop it out with an ice cream scoop, put it in a bowl, & top with whipped cream. Just as good--if not better than, jello cake. The kids thought it was great & recently have even requested recipes for moms jello cake balls!
