When the time comes to destroy a credit card. We run them thru our shredder, which cuts both in vertical and horizontally. If it's still not to our liking, we'll cut even more with scissors. But we don't drop them all in one waste can, we scatter them in various places, in the trash. While also, saving some for another trash day.

Wouldn't it be safer to sand paper the number before shredding?

Sprinkling them in used kitty litter would deter snoopers as well.

Also, when getting rid of shredded credit cards, if you have babies, you can sprinkle them in poopy diapers. Tape up the diaper as usual and dispose of in your diaper disposal can, and who is going to look thru yucky soiled diapers for that?

burning them with the rest of your junkmail is also a good way to destroy them.

My shredder isn't strong enough to shred credit cards, but I do cut them up -and- throw them away in batches as well as different places.
