Apple Brownies

Cream together:

  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar

Add to the above mixture and cream well:

  • 1 egg

Sift together and add to the above mixture:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Add to above mixture:

  • 1/2 cup nutmeats
  • 2 cups dried raw apples

This makes a thick batter. Bake in greased 9x9 inch pan at 350 degrees F for 35-40 minutes.

Serve warm with the following sauce:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup coffee cream (I use evaporated milk)

Boil together for 3-4 minutes.
