A small child's wagon, either metal or plastic, makes for great shoe storage container by a front or back door, or even in the child's bedroom. This way it's easy to put shoes away, and keeps them centrally located and easy to find when you're rushing out the door.
Wish I'd thought of this when my kids were small - it seemed we spent half an hour or more searching for shoes for every outing with our four kids, years ago. (My youngest turns 21 this September.)
