The grand and great grandchildren are hosting a birthday party for my 99 year old grandmother in January 2007. I'm looking for a location (Inland Empire California area) with kitchen facilities (we'd like to cook ourselves). I'm also looking for party ideas, centerpieces something other than flowers. Any ideas? We are on a budget as the grands and greats range from 25-52 years old with families.

Thanks in advance,
WINDELLA from PASADENA,CA

How about potted green plants as centerpieces. Stick in a few colorful silk flowers to add a pretty touch. Wrap the pots in fabric, bandanas, tissue or wrapping paper, or baskets.

Community Centers are the way to go. They usually have kitchen facilities and they are inexpensive to rent. You can usually get them ahead of time to decorate also. Here's a link to some in the Riverside area which I think is close to you. If not just do a search on google.com for community centers in your area.

Church basements or community halls usually have cooking facilities, Windella. Surely your yellow pages will have listings? Even if you have to go out of town a few miles?

99 years old! That's something! If you tried a google.com search for centerpieces appropriate 100 years ago, might you get some ideas?

Good luck!

Cheers,
Rose Anne
