Hang a bug zapper right outside the door. I live in a "buggy" state and this helps a lot with flying insects that are attracted to light, especially at night..
Spraying Avon's Bug Guard Expedition on outdoor light bulbs (while turned off!) and the surrounding area usually help. The bonus is less mosquitos too!!
If you have porch lights by the door, either turn the lights out or buy General Electric Yellow Bug Lights. Bonnie

We hang several Fly Ribbons...(the sticky long strips)around our doors....it will trap alot of flying insects... you will need to replace them once in a while.....
Trish, saying you have 'bugs' outside your door is pretty general. Insects can be tricky to get rid of and you need to look closely at what kind of bugs they are. That'll give you some clue as to why they're hanging around outside your door. Moths, bees, termites, beetles all have different reasons for being interested in your dooryard. Also consider how long they've been there and what the wheather conditions have been lately.
