Brown is considered a neutral now, so you could use any color you want. Either use colors that match it, or ignore it and use colors that appeal to you, making it visually fade away. Your room is a blank slate; have fun!
If the carpet is DARK brown / chocolate brown then very light tan walls (beige?) with earth-toned wall & room decor should look nicely pulled together w/out darkening the room.
