Get pictures of the baby's dad when he was one yr. old and have copies made of the picture. Use the copies as table decorations in the centerpiece or on the invitations along with copies of a pic of your son. People will enjoy seeing all the photos and comparing them. The rest of the party should be just for the dad since the baby won't remember it at all anyway. Have fun!

A giant bar-b-que sounds great! The little guy isn't going to know much so you won't have to do too much that way and can focus on dad's friends. Probably dad has some friends who have children close in age so there should be plenty to play with. I'm all in favor of doing it easy and enjoying yourself!

My 30th birthday is the day after my son's 1st birthday. Does anyone have any fun ideas for a party (or parties)?

RE: Joint Birthday Parties?
We have done the tie dye party with a mix of adults and kids. It's fun and you can keep it simple or fancy it up.
You will need:
things to dye - cheap t-shirts, socks, baby onesies, etc.
dye - Rit works well
buckets - one for each color
rubberbands - for making designs
spray bottles - for designs
vinagar - to set the color
Google "tie dye" for directions. We made "groovy" decorations, wore head bands, and put on the classic 70's rock. We served 70's snack foods: fondue, Koolaid, and pigs in a blanket. We played twister.
Just think of a party from the 70s and think of that 70s show.
Have fun. (02/23/2007)
