We moved from FL to WV in Jan 06 after going through 2 terrible hurricane seasons. One tip I can offer is to get a generator if you can afford it (buy it in off season) It will save a lot of heat and discomfort if you are forced to stay inside without electricity for an extended period of time. To run the generator, get 4-5 gasoline cans, fill them before the storm and store carefully outside. A generator will at least provide you enough power for air conditioner, refrigerator and lights.
