I have found that buying plain plastic serving plates and platters at the dollar store are well worth the investment. I have bought them in white and in red. With two sons, it seems that many birthday themes incorporate red (baseball, Spiderman, etc.), and I also use them for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day! Lots of red throughout the year - plus plastic is nice a light and easily transportable!
