Here is a tip for anybody who is paying the price they charge at the vets. Ask for a prescription and take it to your local drug store. They will fill it for you at about half the price. Not sure if they have the medication? Call first to see if they fill pet prescriptions. Vets have a huge mark up on drugs.

Check with your veterinarian about a liquid NSAID called "Metacam". It can be given every other day, and most cats don't seem to mind. It is a Prescription Drug, so expect to have an examination prior to having it dispensed. There is NO SAFE over the counter medication for cats! Please--don't try to cut cost and give your cat something that will harm it. Be prepared to explain your cat's symptoms, and why you feel the pain medication is needed. This is the only pain medication that I am aware of that is commonly used in cats. (Used it on my own cat for arthritis--what a difference, and got it down to once every 3-4 days.)
