Compacting the Trash

When using canned foods and products, if at all possible, cut both ends off the can and smash the can till it's flattened. If you'll also flatten any boxes, you're going to put in the trash can and bag, the more you'll be able to put in the trash can. Trash bags aren't cheap, but they are a necessity, unless you live in the country or rural area and can burn your trash.
