not too deep-the roots need to be just under the surface

I have never tried to grow peonies in flower pots; but, I do have them in my landscaping borders. They like to be planted very shallow, if you plant them too deep they will not flower. I make sure the soil is dug up very well, I take my hand and make a shallow indentation, place the peony onto the soil and lightly cover it with the dirt.
