This recipe was given to my mom by a friend of hers, (Bonita Young), and then my mom passed it on to me this week. Enjoy!
Ingredients
3 cups sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup cold water
1 tsp. white vanilla - double strength - (Watkins brand has this)
2 egg whites, beaten stiff
Directions
Place sugar, syrup and water in pan over low heat. Stir only until sugar is dissolved. Then cook to a soft ball stage. Add vanilla. Beat until candy is stable when beater is lifted out of it. Add nuts, if desired, before you drop by the spoonful onto waxed paper. Top the pieces with pecans, English walnuts, or maraschino cherries. Let them sit until they can be easily moved into tins or boxes lined with wax paper or foil. Cover with waxed paper.
