My friend's husband had the shingles in mid 2008. Having tried several prescriptions and home remedies for the pain, has found more relief with taking Vitamin B-12 capsules along with Fish Oil capsules, than with any other product(s). He suggested this to a lady friend, who's since tried the same supplements and has experienced pain relief, also.

I am a huge proponent of flax seed oil and fish oil. The Omega-3's are wonderful anti-inflammatories. I have an autoimmune disease which causes severe joint and muscle pains and have been almost pain free since sept. 07 from taking flax oil. I have used the capsules and have also ground my own seed and sprinkled it on cereal, ice cream or put it in smoothies. It all works equally as good. I am a nurse and also like to recommend probiotics. I don't think they will help shingles but for other types of candida they are great. You can get them OTC at the pharmacy or just by eating yogurt with live cultures.

The reason B-12 helps, is cause it's generally made in the intestines or stomach. If you have candida, it can disrupt the production of B-12. Candida can cause all kinds of skin issues, just to name a few, which would limit the amount of B-12 your body would make. So supplementing with it is a good idea. Just make sure it's sub-lingual. Taking pills or what have you & swallowing will not do you much good. It comes in micrograms, not milligrams, so you can pretty much take as much as you want.

B vitamins are water soluble, which means you don't store them. B-12 is one of those B vitamins that is so good for so many things. Look it up. You can die without it, and before you take any B vitamin is large amounts, you must take a base of all the B vitamins. That means like taking a balanced B-100, then taking the B's u need more of. If you don't do that first, it can cause an imbalance & that will cause it's own set of troubles.

The essential fatty acids r necessary for hormone production (that's hormones all over your body) & they really help the skin heal. Just remember, if u have outward signs of candida, it's doing damage where i can't c it, which can lead to many awful things. Take in the ratio of about: EPA (w/dha) about 180mg. GLA about 300mg (many GLA supplements come from sources that equal much more than 300mg, but u want to get 300mg of the GLA)...& flax seen oil of about, maybe 150mg.

The flax seed oil is extremely powerful & in the beginning your body will suck it up. But later, after things are healed & you feel better, you may have to reduce the amount of the flax. Remember, these things are called essential for a reason, your body cannot make them, so you have to consume them & they are stored for use & do not go anywhere until your body uses it, so later you may need less flax. I take the EPA & GLA everyday, but the flax I only take every 2 to 5 days.

When you start taking essential fatty acids, you might want to load up on them, like maybe 2 to 4x the dosages for a week or so. Just pay attention to your skin, it will get & stay creamy soft with them & when you get too much it will start to not feel that way, at that point cut back. When I get too much, I just don't take any for a day or so. Then my body uses up what is stored & then I take it again.

It's one of those very individual things. Everyone is different, but with all this, you must investigate candida. It's the culprit & if you don't take care of that, it's like you are always playing catch up & never quite making it. It can make you crazy. Hope this helps.

I'd also like to know the dosage. My mother has really bad periodic pain from shingles from 10-15 years ago. Muscle relaxers haven't helped at all. Thanks.

Would you possibly know the 'dosage' or milligrams etc., and how many of each tablet/capsules they took a day? My mom has terrible psoriasis and I was thinking this may by some slim chance help her. She's desperate to find anything that would help. Thank you.
