Celebrate Juneteenth

Learn about Juneteenth celebrations. June nineteenth, 1865 was the day that slaves in Texas finally learned that they had been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation. It is traditional to hold a barbecue near a creek or lake, play games, hold a family reunion, and make a memory jar.

Strawberry soda and shortcake, barbecued beef, pork or chicken, and fresh fruit are usually served at Juneteenth picnics.
