I am doing lots of hand embroidery for friends, gifts both baby and weddings. I am in search of the Aunt Martha's Flour Sack Towels that can be embroidered.

I live in a very small town in Central Louisiana and can't find any such item here. We have no Walmart any longer. I did visit several Walmarts in the near by area but to no avail.

Does anyone have any idea where I might obtain some of the flour sack tea towels?

Sincerely,
Nelwyn

Hello! I hope you have "K-MART" stores because I just found some flour sack towels - they are from the Martha Stewart Collection. Good Luck!

Aunt Martha's can be bought online at www.colonialpatterns.com. They will have a better flour sack than the others listed. I am told that this fall they will be switching to a high thread count flour sack hemmed on 4 sides, something even more suitable for embroidery. That is good news considering some other towels are so thin and not meant for embroidery.

If you need a good deal on all different sizes of Flour Sack Towels. I too would go to (http://www.thetowelplace.com). They say they are the top supplier of the flour sack towel and the towels are first rate (not seconds as at some stores online). The prices are also good.

Yes you can get the towels and transfers from Herrshners, Mary Maxim. You will need to cut out the transfers and hot iron them in to the towels. They have lots in both sites or catalogs.

Buy them direct from the manufacturer at http://www.colonialpatterns.com . They have the BEST quality and they also sell the transfer patterns. You can buy them in bulk from them for much cheaper than anyone else. Good Luck!

Does anyone know where I can get jars or bottles with pre-drilled holes in them?
Thanks,

I buy Martha Stewart's Flour Sack Towels at KMart (or whatever the name is now). They are inexpensive, wash/bleach white, and do everything but fold laundry! They are essentially lint free, and the hems hold. I believe they are available online.

They dry crystal, cover bread dough, swat away intruding hands and paws, mop brows, comfort boo-boos, and make good rolling surfaces, or press cloths. If you keep a kosher kitchen, mark them with colored thread.

When they are old, I cut them in half, sew them into a tube for cleaning cloths.

It's a good thing.

I saw flour sack towels recently at K-mart with the rest of the dish towels. I think they are a brand other than Martha Stewart, but I can't remember for sure. Something with the word "Basic" in the name, maybe???

I have bought flour sack towels in my local Wal-mart, but I wasn't happy with them when the seams began to unravel after the first couple washings. Maybe this was just a fluke, but you might be better off with a brand other than Wal-mart so your gifts can be treasured for years to come.
