Cherry Bars

Our local newspaper runs really good recipes. This issue has cookies that sound so good. The readership is small, and these recipes should be shared.

Chewy and full of flavor, plus so easy. You have only one pan to wash.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups corn flakes, crushed
  • 1/2 cup soft butter
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
  • 3/4 cup maraschino cherries, chopped
  • 1 can condensed milk (not evaporated)
  • 1 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
  • 2 cups mini marshmallows

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a 9x13 inch baking pan, combine cornflake crumbs, butter, and sugar. Press down firmly. Sprinkle coconut, marshmallows, nuts, and cherries evenly over the crust. Pour sweetened condensed milk over all evenly. Bake for about 25 minutes. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
