Cherry Bars

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs (beat 1 in at a time)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla (to flour mixture)

Directions

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Beat in shortening and sugar and add eggs and vanilla. Spread 3/4 of mixture on greased cookie sheet. Keep 2 1/2 inches from edge of the pan. Spread with 1 large can cherry pie filling. Spoon remaining mix over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Note: Any fruit or pie filling can be used.

Recipe: Cherry Bars

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup butter
  • 6 Tbsp. powdered sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cup coconut
  • 3/4 cup drained crushed pineapple
  • 1 pkg. cherry chips

Directions

Mix flour, butter and powdered sugar and pat into a 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes. Beat eggs, sugar, baking powder, vanilla and salt. Stir in coconut, pineapple and cherry chips. Add to crust and bake at 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes.

Robin, this sounds scrumpdillyicious, but where in the world do you get packaged cherry chips? I live in Idaho and can't find them anywhere - sigh. (10/07/2009)

I agree with Brenda Sue. I live in Texas and I don't have a clue where to buy them (cherry chips) either. Is there a brand name so I may be able to order them online? (10/07/2009)

Sift together flour, baking soda and salt. In another bowl, beat shortening and sugar until well mixed. Add eggs (beat in one at a time) and vanilla. Add to flour mixture and mix well.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening (melted)
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1 can cherry pie filling

Directions

Mix together dry ingredients. Spread 1/2 of the oleo and dry ingredients mixture in bottom of 8x8 inch pan. Pour a can of cherry pie filling next. Spread other 1/2 on top. Bake at 350 degrees F until it starts bubbling on top.

Recipe: Cherry Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 can cherry pie filling

Glaze:

  • 3 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 3 Tbsp. milk
  • Powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Directions

Cream sugar and margarine; add eggs, salt, baking powder, vanilla and flour.. Spread 1/2 the batter on a greased jelly roll pan. Cover with pie filling. Drop the remaining batter on top by teaspoonfuls. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Spread with glaze; sprinkle with nuts, if desired. For Glaze: Heat sugar, butter and milk until butter is melted. Add powdered sugar and vanilla until consistency of a glaze.
