Recently I developed a cold sore in my mouth, and had no medicine to relieve the pain. My wife gave me a cotton ball covered in ground cloves. I put it on the sore and it relieved the pain within minutes.

If you have a cold sore, alum will heal it quickly...it tastes horrible, but does a good job. Cloves are good to dull the pain of a toothache also.

It also works when you get dry socket after getting teeth pulled. :)
