Changing the Color of Lilac Flowers

Is it possible to change the color of your lilac flowers from white to purple? Please let me know. Thank you.

I don't know whether or not it works for lilacs, but burying a handful of iron nails around the base of a hydrangea bush changes the flowers from pink or white to blue.
