Milk Candy Balls (Yema)

Talking about frugality, I used to sell these candy balls at school. Straight from high school to college I learned to become a small entrepreneur to support myself financially. I earned good money with these candies. I used my earnings to buy some snacks, fare and even school supplies.

Yield: 1 can makes 50-80 marble sized candy balls

Ingredients:

Steps:

  1. Pour milk into pan. Lightly stir over low heat.
  2. Continue stirring when milk simmers and creates bubbles. Do not stop stirring to avoid burning. You can add one large egg for every one can (optional).
  3. Ad

  4. Stir milk continuously until it is thick enough. You'll know when it creates spaces as you stir the mixture.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool.
  6. Ad

  7. Grease your clean hands with oil.
  8. Take a pinch of the yema and roll with your hands to form marble sized candy balls. Chill.
  9. Ad

  10. You can roll it in granulated sugar to avoid sticking to each other (optional).

1. When does one add the egg, and what are the instructions to that?

1. When you want it with egg, add one in every 300 mL can of condensed milk. Stir it into the milk just before placing it over the heat. Mix until well combined then you can start the cooking process.

2. In one can I can make 80-90 candy balls at Php 1.00 ($.02) each. The can of condensed milk costs Php 25.00 ($.49) so I can make about almost $2 out of every can.

3. In a cool dry place. Just like the ordinary candies it can last long without the egg.

4. a gov't employee and an entrepreneur at the same time...
