Visting Mt. Rushmore (South Dakota)

Gold Post Medal for All Time! 899 Posts

Mt. RushmoreOn our annual summer trip to Colorado, we decided to take a detour and show our kids Mt. Rushmore. It was well worth the extra day of travel and added bickering between the kids. :)

It is hard to know how amazing a feat the creation of Mt. Rushmore was without seeing it in person. Given what our children are currently learning about our nation's history at school, this was the perfect opportunity for them to see it in all of its glory.

There is no fee to enter the park, but there is a small parking fee. It cost $11 and gives you unlimited parking access for one year. The view point allows you to get pretty close for photos and there are numerous places to read about the memorial's history. There are a few gift shops and concessions too.

On the day we went we were fortunate enough to meet one of the original workers and we purchased his book along with having it autographed! Now our kids can read a first hand account of the work that went into this amazing place.
