Does anyone know of a simple way to save an individual picture from a Power Point series?

Save the entire Powerpoint presentation to your hard drive. Then open Powerpoint itself, then (using the program) open the file of the presentation. It should show you the slides individually; copy the one you want to a file in your hard drive, then delete the entire presentation.

This should work and is very simple.

Watch the PP presentation. When the picture comes up that you want to keep hold down your Ctrl button and hit Prt Scr (Control and Print Screen). Close the presentation.

Open up MS Paint (or your favorite graphic editing program) and paste to a new selection. That should give you a picture of the presentation screen you "snapped".

Only the PowerPoint Viewer is free. Powerpoint, the program, is part of Microsoft Office, and very expensive.
However, you can get Open Office free at http://openoffice.org. It is the equivalent of Microsoft Office, and many people claim even better. Open the PPT or PPS presentation with Open Office Impress, and it opens by default in editing mode. You can easily remove sappy quotes, that people have overlain, or add your own.
When ready, right-click and select COPY. Then you can paste the picture into a graphics program, spreadsheet, document or email. By the way, to play the PPS automatically, with sound, hit F5.

Right click on the picture, select copy from drop down box and then paste the photo into another slide or onto a Word document.

I'd sure love to know how to do this as well.
