I am with Glenn's Mom ;-) I love the smell of new leather!

I have had this problem when buying leather goods overseas. The leather smelled like a cow for weeks. My friend's son bought her a rug that smelled of meat for months. I think it must just take time for the odor to mellow into that lovely scent of expensive leather stores. I solved this problem by leaving the items out of doors as much as possible until the awful odor faded into the usual scent we associate with leather.
