I want to do a one time project of burning letters into wood. Does anyone know of any household items that might burn into wood?

A magnifying glass and sunshine ;-) I know this man's mom and he does some incredible burn art! Check out: http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2556806770049130849ZateTB

And type in durfsun in a general google search ;-) He also has some videos on YouTube :-)
