Recycle your large salsa jars. I use them for my salt, pepper and spices. Just spray paint the lid any color, I use white spray paint then take a nail and hammer in holes on the top of the lid large enough for whatever spice you are putting in them. Great for dry rubs and your own spice blends. These work great for barbecue. After friends and family saw mine they all made their own.

I think I like the idea of using the empty plastic parm or romano cheese container....and those usually have the lid that lifts up for sprinkling and then snaps shut so spice isn't "exposed"....seems a lot easier and then you don't have to worry about breaking a glass jar. I do like to use the salsa jars and such for storing leftovers....or use them for making up coffee and cocoa mix and such. I really enjoy re-using things that would ordinarily go in the trash.

You know what else works if you don't want to go to all that trouble, use empty plastic parm cheese jars. The lids lift for sprinkling or spooning. You can paint the tops safely without paint getting in the food. I have also printed a picture on my computer and cut it out and glued it on the top.

Sounds great except for painting the lids. I don't want to take the chance of getting any paint or paint flakes in my food.

I have plenty of jars with white tops, I can use those or can find white tops to fit my 'salsa jars', or will just live with the color & advertising on the jar tops.

Makes a lot of sense to use large jars for rubs and bar-b-que. Thanks
