Take a sheet of plastic canvas that you use for crafting and put in your sink, It is like a screen when you are washing dishes. You can catch all your food from going down and clogging up your drain.

I bought 2 drain screens that I place in the drain as soon as I pull the basket. They were somewhere near $1 ea. and have already paid for themselves with the gunk I've kept from going down my drains.
