Use a paint called Kilz- I just bought a house and the bathroom was someone's sponging mistake and I tried to use regular paint for the primer and the paint peeled off. So learn by my mistake go to Home Depot or local hardware store and get Kilz they have tinted now.
And you can use a roller but will have to watch where the paint is laying on the wall. Good Luck
