Attaching Snaps to Fabric

Is there an easy and quick way to apply snaps to a garment? Years ago I bought a snap gadget that applies snaps to material but I couldn't get it work right and finally gave up on it. Please help me step by step with tips. Or if you know a way to apply snaps without a gadget, that would be even better. Thanks.

There are no-sew snaps. There are easy to follow instructions at this site:
