winner.jpg My cat Gus 2005. I remember about 2 years ago a red headed boy rode up on a bike asking if anyone wanted a kitten. Then he pulled a small white powder puff from his pocket. I took it home. Now he is so big ... it's hard to imagine him ever fitting into someones pocket.

He has been fixed and he never leaves his yard.

Gus is beautiful. I had a pure white cat named Rocky. Rocky was a true albino with one blue eye and one green eye. He was not deaf. But we had a stray take up with us during a thunderstorm one day. He too was pure white with green eyes. He was deaf. Our vet told us that many pure white cats are deaf.

I had a pure white cat with blue eyes and he was deaf.I also read that white blue eyed cats were deaf.I guess there are exceptions to every rule.If we wanted to get his attention we had to stomp on the the ground and he felt the vibrations. This cat was different, instead of going back to his old home when we moved,he followed us to our new home about 5 miles a way .To this day we don't know how he did it.

Our Snowball looks just like Gus except for Blue eyes & he certainly doesn't behave like he's deaf , he loves to talk & has a Beautiful Mewsical Voice . He's big too & is Long Haired .I wonder if anyone knows what the Purrcentages are of deaf as against Non Deaf Pure white Cats. Maybe it has to with whether their Parents were pure white too .
I wish you many happy years with Gus ,he looks sweet . & I thank you for saving him . I'd have popped him in my shirt & brought him home too.
I bet when Gus swats with those big feet what ever he swats stays swatted .
T C : Catnip is [I think] a type of Mint, sometimes called cat mint . That is probably why they like laying in the mint patch .

Hi Jan,
My cat Lily has very blue eyes, is pure white and is definitely not deaf. I have heard the same thing about blue eyed white cats and my vet was surprised that she could hear. She is a shorthair which might make a difference.

Your cat has yellow eyes,if they were blue he would be deaf. Most all pure white cats with blue eyes are deaf.

He's beautiful! It's hard to believe how fast they grow up and how big they can get. I hope you have many, many happy years with him.
