When it's necessary to paint over brick, spray it with water before priming. The brick and other porous surfaces soak up the water and therefore will not require so much paint to cover it.

The latest craze is painting paving bricks to look like bees, and chicks , and bunnies. Rather than buy patio paint in 2 oz bottles - buy pints of masonry paint at your local DIY business. You can store it in a syrup or cleaned dish liquid bottle for e-z pouring on your palette. Buy the patio paints for detail painting.
