I am assuming these were plastic eggs filled with chocolate candy? If so, I would take one of the plasitic eggs, put my answer inside, then give him a note with a clue to start him on a hunt to find the egg. Be creative, make it fun, but not expensive. :-)

That was his way of trying to be "sweet", answer based on what you would answer if he came right out and asked you.
This guy asked me to homecoming by putting glow in the dark stars all over my room and there was a note saying "will you be my homecoming star?"
