Mounting Baby's Mobile On The Wall |
|
|
We'd like to adapt a crib mountable baby mobile onto the wall near the changing table so our son has something to distract him while he's being changed.
Unfortunately, most mobiles have very short arms and are only designed to be used with cribs - where the baby is much lower than the base of the mount and couldn't reach the mobile.
We'd love suggestions for adapting the mounting.

Build a hanging bracket for the mobile out of wood. Put 2 small pieces of 2x4 on the wall several inches apart. 1 piece of 2x4 attached on the front. The end result resembels a "U" shape. Two sides & a front. There should be space between the front & the wall, allowing you to hang the mobile from the front of the "U". This "U" must be high enough on the wall so the baby can't touch the mobile. My crib mobiles had a large "clothespin clip" clamp which would clip onto the side rail of the crib. Adapt this idea to suit the type of clamp you have to attach the mobile with.

I have a home daycare and I have always kept one toy at the changing table for them to hold and look at. It's very distracting and I would change every couple of weeks to a new toy. A mobile may make your baby want to grab at it instead of laying down for you.

Try using one of those hangers that are for hanging plants from a wall. It should keep the mobile out just enough to keep it from touching your wall.

Look in the garden dept at WalMart or your local hardware store. They have brackets that are for mounting hanging planters on a vertical surface. You should be able to find one to match or paint one. Just be sure to use wall anchors to attach it securely.
