I found this website that has a Dorito Salad recipe. Not sure if that's what you had but it sure sounds yummy.

By her description, it's definitely not a Petro. I am hooked on those things and a Petro doesn't have tortilla chips or French dressing on it. Whatever she ate though sounds wonderful as well!
Hi Michele,
Sounds to me like you may have had a Petro. Here
is the web address to find out all about them, along
with history and recipes. We were first introduced
to Petros at the Knoxville World's Fair in 1982, and
we've been making them ever since. They are really
a tasty treat, and if you want more than a treat, just
make them a lot larger. They are truly delicious.

Hope you enjoy them as much as our family does.

Sounds like Taco Salad. When I make mine, I brown ground beef with taco seasoning, then cool it. I chop iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, green onions, and provide kidney or ranch style beans, along with tortilla chips, sour cream, avocado slices, salsa, sliced jalapenos, and my special dressing, which is simply equal amounts of French salad dressing and Italian dressing, shaken together. (I usually buy a bottle of each and mix.)
To serve, I let each person build their own salad, so that they can have the condiments they want in whatever quantities they prefer. It's one of my hubby's absolute favorite meals!
when i was growing up in AZ, we always had a salad called Ranch Style bean salad. It had a jar of Catalina dressing, you mix that with 1 or 2 cans of Ranch Style Beans and then add green onions and tomatoes, and then right before serving you add Lettuce, cheese and corn chips. We love it!
